Kothnok was a product of my just starting WoW around Christmas 2005. I played for a few days, starting with an undead mage since undead as a race was something new and exciting. I leveled several race/class combos but never stuck with anything past level 16. New Years Eve rolls around and I hear about a new server opening up. 5 minutes after Alexstrasza opened, I thought I’d check it out since I’ve never logged into a brand new server before. I took my time and made a night elf druid, a race/class I had not tried before. I didn’t really have a name picked out and I figured I wouldn’t play long anyway, so I used the random name generator for a bit until I found something close to Kothnok. I stripped away a few letters and liked the result. It’s kinda neat knowing that the name is unique in the Armory.
I logged in to absolute mayhem. 400+ people in the NE starting zone with very few of anyone out beyond it. A mob would die as soon as it spawned. Completing any kind of quest was insanely hard, but I stuck it out just for the sheer novelty of it. A day or two later, I’m level 12 and starting to explore Darkshore when I run into another druid doing the same quests I am trying to do. Instead of competing for the same mobs, we grouped up (it was rare to find someone willing to group at that time) and we hit it off as friends right away. Ever since then, Shadowwolf and I have maintained a lasting friendship. If not for a business trip I was on at the time, I would have been one of the founding members of Twilight. As it was, I joined up shortly after I got back and could not have been happier. I’ve had experience running guilds in the past in other games and was even co-leader of an EQ guild for a long while. I’ve tried to impart my knowledge from those times to help Twilight whenever possible and am still learning and adapting as time moves on.
